I just spoke with Dr. Kerstetter who did Darby's TPLO. I must say I'm still a bit in shock over the phone consultation.
After 13 weeks, Darby can start to trot slowly on her walks for a week to 10 days. She can also start swimming and in a couple of weeks actually try running a bit. He thinks in 4 weeks she can go about being a normal dog again. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!! Darby will be as surprised, I think as I am. ;-) It has been harder and harder to hold her back lately.
Yesterday I did some scouting for someplace close to swim her. I can go out to Betty's anytime I choose, but she's a good half hour from me. I stopped at a park on the way home from training Shanny and found a decent sized pond/lake. Itís a public park and I saw dog prints around the water, so I'm not the only one who has found it. There were 3 Canada Geese on the water too. The bottom is mucky, but I'll live with it. I'll take her on lead in the water for the first few times so she doesn't dive in. Dr. K warned against her diving. She's not normally a diver anyway, but I don't want to take any chances.
I am so thankful that I cannot put into words how I feel. All I can say is Thank You Sweet Jesus for looking down upon us and blessing us.
Yes I am a bit scared too. To finally loosen up on Darby is frightening. Especially since I can't afford another surgery anytime soon. I will put my trust in the Lord.
