April 13, 2005 - Update
I was asked to update Darby's Diary by some of you who have read it.
Its been 4 years since her TPLO. She's doing wonderfully. If you didn't know she had the surgery, you'd not know. (not sure that made sense, but you get the idea).
She has made an absolutely remarkable recovery from the surgery. Thank you Jesus! I've since heard of some problems with ACL surgeries in dogs, but thankfully ours went very smoothly. She doesn't limp at all and the leg is strong. She can tear around the yard with the youngsters with no consequences. I still flinch when I see her running so hard, but she certainly is enjoying herself.
She receives Glucosamine/Chrondritin with her meals, but is not on any medication for pain or inflammation. I'm not sure if she'll need it as she gets older, but I'll worry about that if and when it happens.
She had a litter of pups in February, 2004 (her last) and was spayed afterwards.
She's 8 years old now and retired from agility. She last ran in the Labrador National agility trials in St. Louis, MO in October 2003. We never did get that last stinkin' leg for her Novice Jumpers. It was mostly my fault. I can't run as fast as I used to. I may bring her back out at a lower height, but right now I think she's content at just laying around and being a couch dog.
I do thank each and every one of you for writing and I'm glad Darby's story has helped you with your dogs. I will update again if anything changes. God Bless.
